About

Camille Chiang is a contemporary artist born and raised in Hong Kong and now residing in San Francisco.  She focuses on capturing the complex emotions of human behavior through a compelling series of mixed-media portraits.

I didn't start drawing art out of passion; I really started out of necessity. I always enjoyed crafts, but it wasn't until I began painting faces that I realized the value-creating brought into my life. I was an extremely quiet child. My naive curiosity was taken from me at a young age by the city, and I was always captivated by people and their facial expressions—when hiding something, lying, crying, the more raw and dirt-filled emotions. This passion for studying people grew into a full-blown academic pursuit as I merged my university psychology courses with my ongoing exploration of our lives through paint. While I have always been an impulse creator, I have believed that true art comes from a hidden child inside everyone, which, in my eyes, is the truth within us that I try to share.
