From early-morning excitement to a heartfelt surprise from her recruiting coach, Miley’s signing day was a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right support system and why so many families trust NCSA to guide their recruiting journey. 

“Do You Know What Day It Is?” A Dream Becomes Reality 

Miley started the day the way many athletes do: excited, emotional, and ready to take the final step. After being accepted to UT Tyler, signing her athletic aid agreement marked one of the last milestones in her recruiting process. 

Later that day, she joined six other athletes at her school’s signing ceremony. But what Miley didn’t know was that the day still had one unforgettable moment left. 

A Recruiting Coach Who Went the Extra Mile 

Behind the scenes, Miley’s NCSA recruiting coach, Heather Evans, was on a mission. 

While most signing-day celebrations happen over a phone call or Zoom, Coach Heather wanted this one to be different. She boarded a plane and traveled to surprise Miley in person with real hugs, real high fives, and a moment neither of them would forget. 

How NCSA Helped Make the Process Easier 

During a sit-down interview, Miley and her family reflected on how NCSA shaped her journey. 

One moment stood out in particular: logging into her NCSA dashboard and seeing which college coaches had viewed her profile. Every notification brought excitement, motivation, and reassurance that her hard work was being seen. 

Without NCSA College Recruiting, Miley shared, the process would have felt overwhelming. 

“I think it would have been a lot more difficult and more stressful… “ she said. “I feel like I would have been a little bit lost.”

Miley’s relationship with Coach Heather became one of the most meaningful parts of her journey. 

From reaching out to college coaches to providing encouragement after setbacks, Coach Heather was always there whether the conversation was about recruiting or just life as a student-athlete. 

When Miley talked about her coach during the interview, she had no idea Coach Heather was standing just outside the room. 

The surprise moment said it all: gratitude, emotion, and a bond built on trust. 

Determination That Never Stopped 

From Coach Heather’s perspective, working with Miley was special. 

She described Miley as driven, focused, and relentless, someone who refused to let uncertainty or rejection derail her goals. Even when her confidence wavered, Miley kept moving forward. 

“That train never stopped,” Coach Heather said. 

Advice for Future Student-Athletes 

Miley gave one piece of advice to athletes just starting their recruiting journey: 

Stay on top of it. 

Recruiting can feel stressful and overwhelming at first, but once you get focused and organized, it becomes manageable—and even fun. 

“If I had to do it all over again, I totally would. I just fell in love with the recruiting process with NCSA.” 

And perhaps most importantly, Miley shared that without NCSA, she might never have discovered UT Tyler, the school she’s now proud to call home.

The Decision Process

Miley used the NCSA college comparison chart to weigh the pros and cons of each program and how it fit with her goals. The chart helped her compare cost and scholarships, academic standards and track interactions with college coaches.

The Choice

Miley chose UT Tyler, a Division 2 volleyball program in the Lone Star Conference. Her next step? To call her future coach. 

When she told UT Tyler coach Lyndsay Mashe that she was committing, Mashe was enthusiastic. “We are pumped,” she said. “That’s so exciting. I’m glad that you chose us and I’m super excited […] just to see how you grow.” 

For Miley, her commitment ended a story that included going through official visits, speaking with college coaches and even moving past rejection from one top choice.

But, like so many student-athletes experience in the process, the coach at that school had some bad news: They decided to go a different direction.  

“I know there’s going to be somewhere better for me, but right now it just really hurts,” Myers said.  

Myers, who is documenting her volleyball recruiting process using NCSA, turned to her NCSA recruiting coach Heather Evans, who immediately offered some encouraging words. 

“I know that hurts. I know that stings. Just want you to know you’re right where you need to be,” Evans told her. “Every time there’s a no in this process, it’s just going to get us closer and closer to that one yes.” 

Myers kept searching and continued on to visit another school that checks all of her boxes for academics, culture, athletics, and location.  

“When one door closes,” she advises, “just keep searching because another door might open that’s even better.”

She learned quickly that taking a visit when student-athletes aren’t on campus can give you a good sense of the coaching staff but isn’t as helpful to learn what it’s like to be a student-athlete at that school. 

“I highly recommend going when school is in session because you get the feel of what it is like to be a college athlete,” she says.  

On her third visit she got to have dinner with the team, see them play and even be in the locker room for the postgame talk. 

Another tip? “To prepare for college visits you need to have a list of questions written down. It’s going to be really awkward if you don’t have anything prepared to say,” she said.

Sienna, an IMG Academy alumnus, knew she wanted to play at the next level, but was having trouble figuring how to get noticed by college coaches until she found NCSA.

Challenges Before NCSA 

Before discovering NCSA, both Annie and Sienna were lost in the recruiting process.  

As parents you want to be able to support them fully, and I felt like a novice,” Annie said. I didn’t know how to navigate the recruiting world.“

Success and Impact

Looking back on his recruiting experience, Austin reflected on how much NCSA’s tools helped him understand which schools would be the best match for him and connect with college coaches.  

Austin was guided along the way by Recruiting Coach, Coy Barnett, who gave valuable advice that helped Austin build his confidence in the process.

I wouldn’t have gotten past step one if it wasn’t for NCSA,” Austin said.  

How NCSA Helped Austin Get Recruited for a D3 Baseball Program 

NCSA’s Match Percentage tool provides an analysis of how well a school matches your athletic, academic, and personal preferences.

The higher the percentage, the better the fit.

It gives you a snapshot of how your preferences align with the school, making it easier for you narrow down your school search.  
 
Austin said it is “crazy accurate.” He ended up committing to a school where he had a 92% match.  

Connecting with College Coaches 

The hardest part about recruiting was getting initial contact with a coach, and NCSA helps with just that,” Austin said.  

NCSA makes it simple for athletes to get noticed by college coaches.

Austin easily made initial contacts and messaged back and forth with coaches using NCSA’s messaging center.

He could see when his messages were viewed by coaches, gaining perspective on which coaches were interested in him.

Austin said his Recruiting Coach, Coy, was everything you need in a coach.  

Every time I got off the phone with Coy, I knew not even just my next step, but the next three steps,” he said.  

Coy was incredibly detailed and gave accurate, helpful information to Austin and his family through all stages of the recruiting process.

Coy’s guidance gave Austin the confidence to put in the work, ask questions and hear Coy’s advice.  

The relationship between an NCSA family and their Recruiting Coach is extremely rewarding for the Recruiting Coach, too!  

It was very rewarding to see him into his senior year have a lot of schools have interest,” Coach Coy said.  

Making His Goals Attainable  

Getting recruited was always the goal for Austin, but figuring out how to do it could have been a huge roadblock. NCSA helped make his plans actionable.

About Alex 

Alex and her mom Patricia knew they wanted to start the recruiting process, but they felt unsure of where to begin. As a mother-daughter team, they were looking for more guidance to navigate the journey. Being the parent of a student-athlete can be overwhelming. Parents pour so much time and energy into supporting their child’s sport and staying on top of the recruiting process in addition to that can be incredibly stressful. 

You need someone to hold your hand and say, ‘Hey mom, it’s going to be OK,’ because it gets scary,” Patricia said. 

Even the most talented athletes can feel discouraged when they’re not getting noticed by coaches, especially since coaches are evaluating thousands of athletes. That’s why Alex’s mom values the guidance from NCSA so much. 

You’re wondering why don’t [college coaches] see what I see and what the high school coaches see? Well, it’s because they’re looking at 1,000 kids, not just your kid. And NCSA just guides you, where it goes from “1,000, to 500, to 10 to your kid.”  

Patricia was grateful knowing there was always a team behind the scenes, taking the next step to help her daughter. “It’s nice to have that support,” she said. “It takes a village, that’s for sure.”
